TEXAS

BLUE ACTION

NETWORK

previously known as 2 Million Texans

The Blue Action Network is working with campaigns across the Lone Star State to put the power to win elections in your hands, by letting you see which friends and family haven’t voted so YOU can turn them out. Download the REACH progressive app., join the Blue Action Network, and flip Texas blue!

How “FRIENDBANKING” works
The concept is simple: Download an app that tells you which of your friends haven’t voted yet, you remind them to vote, and then invite others to do the same thing. That’s it. But, when large numbers of people all do this basic thing, the impact on elections is tremendous. (For the average volunteer, 1 in 6 people in their phone did not vote in the last midterm, which adds up to millions of votes across Texas.)

  2. Search for yourself in the voter file (or a friend, if you are not registered) and add yourself (as “self”) to your personal network of voters.

  3. Using the Action Card that says Step 2: Match Your Mobile Contacts find registered voters from your mobile contacts, and add them to your network (“My Reach”). You want to match 50-100 voters to find the ones who don’t vote. Privacy is important. don’t share phone numbers or e-mails with the campaign.

  4. Identify the Democrats you know by surveying them on their profile

  5. Remind the ones who don’t vote. (The app will tell you who hasn’t voted yet.)

  6. Recruit your friends who have voted to download the app look for votes in their phones. (The app will tell you who votes in Democratic primaries).

If every person already working or volunteering for a Democratic campaign in Texas downloaded this app and found just 6 people in their phone they could turn out, that would be over 1.2 million new Democratic votes and Texas turns blue.

The more people who join, the closer we come to flipping Texas blue.

Texas Blue Action Network is

a truly coordinated statewide effort for all candidates.

There are tens of thousands of volunteers mobilizing with hundreds of campaigns and organizations across Texas. We’re excited to partner with many well-known elected officials, candidates, public figures and grassroots organizations across our state.

Traditional voter contact methods rely on ads or calls from unknown numbers and estimate the number of attempts needed to properly ID and GOTV a voter.

However, the vast majority of voter contact from strangers (phone banks or canvasses) and paid advertisements results in a very small impact on turnout and low ROI.

Blue Action Network uses a mobile app (Reach) and a relational approach to map the entire state as a network of unique individuals connected by relationships. This novel data is invaluable to determine not just which methods/how many attempts are needed to contact a voter, but which individuals (relational volunteers) will have the highest chance of successfully contacting and turning out each voter based on their relationships in the network.

coordinate all campaigns and organizations statewide

All Democratic campaigns, including “coordinated” campaigns, waste resources due to duplication of efforts (i.e. mailing, calling, and knocking on the doors of the same voters) and lack of unified infrastructure.

Blue Action Network addresses this by using its relational network to coordinate voter contact automatically. By integrating contacts across all campaigns (from Governor to school board), their volunteers, as well as party members, clubs and grassroots organizations, into a unified network, Blue Action Network will allow all 4,000 campaigns across the state to leverage each others’ networks, avoid duplication, and concentrate traditional voter contact resources on the smaller universe of true “strangers” (voters not in any volunteer’s network).

This increases the efficiency of all campaigns’ paid and volunteer voter contact efforts and allows them to better allocate resources.

increase turnout among hard-to-reach demographics:

Immigrants: Microtargeting religious and linguistic communities, and relationally organizing them statewide. (e.g. Ismaili Muslim community in TX-22 was relationally organized in Urdu, and turned out at 83% in 2018; the state average was 46%)

Gen-Z (under 30) voters: RVT has the highest impact on the youngest voters (2.36x average, 9% increase in turnout) because many young voters exclusively use social media DMs to communicate and can’t be reached by traditional phone banking. Blue Action Network partners with student and Gen-Z groups to use a more intuitive mobile app reaching >200,000 voters under 30.

Low propensity voters in safe Democratic districts: In 2018, the safest 11 Democratic Congressional Districts had a 12% lower turnout than the state average, resulting in 200k fewer votes. The majority of these areas are communities of color. The lowest propensity voters show the highest turnout increase from RVT (2.89x average or 11%). Blue Action Network’s strategy targets these areas by recruiting high propensity volunteers to relationally contact their own low propensity friends and neighbors.
